OCSO DEPUTY INVOLVED IN FORTSON SHOOTING FIRED FROM AGENCY

The Okaloosa Sheriff's Office has released its administrative internal affairs investigation report into the deputy-involved shooting of Sr. Airman Roger Fortson. According to the report, the investigation determined the deputy's use of deadly force "was not objectively reasonable and therefore violated agency policy". In a statement, Sheriff Eric Aden says "this tragic incident should have never occurred. The objective facts do not support the use of deadly force as an appropriate response to Mr. Fortson's actions". The deputy involved, Eddie Duran, has been fired from the agency. It's important to note that the administrative investigation is separate from the ongoing criminal investigations by FDLE and the State Attorney's Office.
