MAYOR REEVES CONCERNED OVER RISING RED LIGHT INFRACTIONS

One month after ticketing began, the number of red light violations in Pensacola is alarming. The city installed red light cameras across four different intersections earlier this year. They've been tracking the violations since January, but even as tickets have been issued, the numbers keep growing. 2300 tickets, which averages about 82 a day. That's how many red light violations were caught at just four intersections in the month of February. 45 additional violations were rejected by Pensacola Police. Mayor D C Reeves reiterates that the cameras were not put in for financial reasons. He says if it was about money, they'd set up officers at the intersections to write tickets that would be twice as much. Tickets for violators now are $158.
