Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The world is watching Washington DC today as first responders work to recover bodies from victims in last night's airplane/helicopter crash. Locally, Airport Director Matt Coughlin says there are likely to be many contributing factors for the accident...
"They'll go as far back and look at pilot and aircrew histories...what they did for the last 36 hours," Coughlin says the investigation will go in depth and find out what caused the accident. "This isn't out of the normal type operations there....so something was amiss."
Coughlin says both aircraft were flying according to normal operations in the area...so something is off about the accident. He's curious whether the Army pilots were wearing night-vision goggles -- which he says could impact peripheral sight and depth perception. Coughlin says while we have a busy airspace here in Pensacola with a combination of military and civilian aircraft, the safety record in our area is excellent.
