Santa Rosa County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The Santa Rosa Board of Commissioners heard from a local Air Force captain participating in the "Miss Veteran America" competition this week. Captain Ilene Clemens says the competition celebrates the women behind the uniform -- and the proceeds benefit homeless female veterans.
Clemens told her story of growing up in a home ravaged by a nasty divorce -- said without the support her mother received, she may have never become a successful military officer herself.
Clemens said more than 50-thousand female veterans are struggling with homelessness and at risk of losing custody of their children because of military sexual trauma, PTSD, and other issues.
She's looking for sponsors for the competition -- she says all proceeds from sponsoring her are benefiting female veterans struggling with homelessness. Donations can be made here and more information on the Miss Veteran America competition is available at this link.
