IDALIA DESTROYS SEVERAL SEA TURTLE NESTS -- David Wayne
Heartbreaking news this week -- the damage from storm surge caused by Hurricane Idalia has washed out several sea turtle nests along our coastline. According to the PNJ, at least four of the turtle nests along Pensacola and Navarre Beach were damaged, and at least 13 nests were destroyed in the Gulf Island National Seashore due to the rising waters this week. Sea levels were estimated to have reached around 11-feet this week after Idalia made landfall in the Big Bend area. It also caused State Road 399 from Pensacola Beach to Navarre and Fort Pickens Road to be closed for temporarily.
