Gusty winds, heavy rain hit Pensacola area Friday night

Pensacola Regional Airport reported a wind gust of 50 knots (57.5 mph) from the north-northeast Friday evening around 10:40 p.m., according to automated weather station data. The airport also recorded heavy rain and mist, with visibility reduced to 2.5 miles. Lightning was observed in the distance to the south and southwest of the airport.

The conditions reflect what appears to be a strong weather system moving through the area. Residents and travelers should exercise caution during Friday night's weather, particularly those on area roadways where gusty winds and reduced visibility from rain could create hazardous driving conditions.
