GAETZ WILL NOT RETURN TO CONGRESS

Pensacola FL (NewsRadio 92-3) Former U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz made his first statement since announcing his withdrawal as President-elect Donald Trump's nomination for Attorney General. The Florida Republican said today he will not return to Congress in the next session. Gaetz resigned from the current 118th Congress and in his resignation letter said he did not intend to take his oath of office in the 119th Congress that will be seated in January. Some have wondered if Gaetz could technically still take up his office in the new congress. Gaetz's statement today ends that speculation and ensures a special election will go forward. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has not set a date yet for the election.
