Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission is set to vote on a possible black bear hunt this week. If approved it would be the first bear hunt in Florida in a decade. The hunt was proposed to deal with overpopulation. Under the proposed rules the hunt would be capped at 187 bears across four bear hunt zones. The closest county to us that would be involved in the bear hunt is Bay County. Some local officials believe our area should be involved, as bear incidents in the Gulf Breeze area have really ticked up lately. The FWC meets Wednesday morning.
