Fort Walton Beach Doubles Down on Trash Pickup Starting Oct. 5

Fort Walton Beach residents will soon get a break from overflowing garbage cans. Starting October 5, the city will roll out twice-weekly trash collection, up from the current once-a-week schedule, according to WKRG News 5.

The expanded service is part of Fort Walton Beach's new 2-1-1 collection system, which aims to keep neighborhoods cleaner and reduce the buildup of refuse between pickups. The change comes as the neighboring coastal community addresses quality-of-life concerns from residents dealing with debris accumulation during Florida's warm, humid months.

While the expanded schedule may result in higher municipal costs, city leaders have prioritized the improved service to support residents and maintain neighborhood standards.
