Tallahassee, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- A federal appeals court has upheld a preliminary injunction blocking a controversial Florida law aimed at undocumented immigrants. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Attorney General James Uthmeier's request to temporarily enforce the law, saying he failed to demonstrate that the law does not conflict with federal immigration authority. The law was passed earlier this year, and would criminalize illegal entry into Florida. Critics argue it infringes on federal jurisdiction. The issue has become increasingly contentious -- with the judge threatening to hold Uthmeier in comtempt over his defiant posture regarding the judges ruling in the case.
