FL Tax Package Would Include Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, Exemptions on Safety Items

TAX PACKAGE WOULD AID BACK-TO-SCHOOL SHOPPERS, BUSINESSES

Florida lawmakers have introduced a tax package that includes an annual sales-tax holiday each August for back-to-school items and eliminates sales taxes on commercial leases, hurricane supplies, and other essentials like sunscreen. The proposal is set for a vote next week alongside the proposed state budget. It's projected to reduce state and local revenue by approximately $1.3 billion for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Key features of the package also include exemptions for items like fire extinguishers and life jackets, as well as a one-time tax holiday for hunting and camping supplies from September through December.
