Pensacola FL (NewsRadio 92-3) Escambia County's firefighter union says they're set to begin negotiations for a new pay structure soon. Right now a starting firefighter only makes $13-dollars per hour.... and that had to be increased by a cent when the state's mimium wage went up last month. Escambia County firefighters are required to stay with the department for two years after graduating the fire academy -- and without a pay increase many could end up leaving soon. The firefighters union is pushing for a higher starting wage of 17-99 per hour and a structured pay system that would reward those who stay with the department.
