ESCAMBIA SCHOOLS WILL SELL GIBSON SCHOOL BUILDING

Pensacola FL (PNJ) The Escambia County School Board voted this week to sell the historic John A. Gibson school building to the city of Pensacola for $260,000, according to the PNJ. The school building last housed the Community Action Program Committee's Head Start program, but the group ceased its operations in that building in 2023 because it was too badly damaged from Hurricane Sally. In September, the school board agreed to sell the property to the city for $700,000, pending a six-month due diligence period. Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves said the city found that it’ll cost $500,000 just to make the building safe for people to re-enter. The building will need asbestos remediation plus structural work to keep the building from collapsing.
