Escambia, Santa Rosa shellfish areas reopen after water quality review

Florida health officials have given the all-clear for shellfish harvesting to resume in portions of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, according to an announcement from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The reopening comes after the department completed a water quality review of the affected areas. Shellfish harvesting had been restricted in these zones while state officials evaluated conditions to ensure the waters met safety standards for commercial and recreational harvesting.
Local oyster and clam harvesters can now return to these areas. The department's decision reflects improved water quality conditions in the region, though residents should continue to monitor for any future closure notices.
