Escambia County OKs $894.5M budget after debate over sheriff funding

Escambia County commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a nearly $894.5 million budget for the coming fiscal year, but the decision didn't come without significant disagreement over spending priorities.

The board split on whether to make deeper cuts to the sheriff's office and other constitutional officers' budgets. According to Coral Springs News, commissioners debated the proposals at length before ultimately moving forward with the spending plan.

The approved budget will guide county spending across all departments and agencies over the next fiscal year. The final vote reflected disagreement among commissioners about the right balance between maintaining law enforcement and other core services.
