Escambia County, FL (Newsradio Pensacola) -- Escambia County has now dropped its lawsuit against Escambia County Clerk of Court Pam Childers over her refusal to pay state fines against former EMS paramedic Matthew Selover.
The PNJ reports that the Escambia Board of Commissioners filed the notice for voluntary dismissal on June 21st. The lawsuit had originally been filed in March of last year.
The Escambia Board of Commissioners had voted 3-1 to pay Selover's fine from the Florida Department of Health after former medical director Dr. Rayme Edler alleged Selover violated state law with patient care in incidents in 2018 and 2019. Two of those incidents resulted in the patient dying. Selover and the health department settled over the allegations and he kept his paramedic's license, paid a fine, and took continuing education courses.
Childers told the board that it wasn't legal to pay an individual's fine and said she wouldn't pay it without a court order.
Selover previously sued the county saying he was a victim of harassment and retaliation by Edler and received a $200-thousand dollar settlement.
