ESCAMBIA CHILDREN'S TRUST EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RAISE APPROVED -- David Wayne
Pensacola, Fl (Newsradio 92.3) -- A 5-thousand dollar salary increase for the new Escambia Children's Trust Executive Director has been approved by the Trust's board. That request was made by Lindsey Cannon after the board voted to offer her the job in December.
Some board members believed the job should pay the salary that had been advertised. "I am responsible to the taxpayers," said Escambia County Commissioner Lumon May, who is a member of the trust board. "So to those who are watching, they recognize that $5,000 dollars is a lot of money to someone who is poor... But more importantly, to an ad velorem tax watcher who thinks we are spending more money on salaries on salaries than we are on children... I'm responsible to them as well."
The majority of the board supported the $5,000 increase for Cannon, saying she had been told the salary was negotiable and that it may have been low compared to other non-profits with similar budgets.
The increase will be at least partially offset by Cannon not using money that was budgeted to pay moving expenses for the person who took the job, which she won't need as she already lives here.
The increase to $125,000 dollars per year was approved in a 6-3 vote.
