ECUA Reports 3,600 Gallon Sewage Spill on East Kingsfield Road

The Emerald Coast Utilities Authority dealt with a sanitary sewer overflow Wednesday morning on East Kingsfield Road after a contractor accidentally damaged a critical sewer line. The incident happened at 1425 East Kingsfield Road between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., when the contractor bored through a force main — one of the large pipes that carries sewage under pressure through the system. A total of 3,600 gallons spilled, though ECUA crews were able to recover 3,500 gallons. ECUA did not immediately report any impact to customers or surrounding areas, but the authority typically notifies affected residents when overflows occur. Force main breaches are relatively serious incidents since they can require emergency repairs to restore service.
