A man will be charged in the 1998 cold case murder of Steven Davis in an Escambia County Winn-Dixie parking lot. The Escambia County Sheriff's Office announced yesterday morning that 44-year-old Donald Holmes II will be charged for the murder. The incident happened on Aug. 26, 1998, at the Winn-Dixie on Navy Blvd. Deputies say Davis was leaving the parking lot in his cab when he was shot. Davis exited his cab and headed back towards the Winn-Dixie for help. However, he collapsed in the parking lot, where he died from his injuries. Sheriff Chip Simmons says that deputies were able to identify Holmes as the suspect through new forensic technology that examined a bloody fingerprint from the scene.
