ECPS, Magdalene's Host Free Online Safety Workshop for Parents, Kids

Escambia County Public Schools is teaming up with local anti-trafficking organization Magdalene's, Inc. to offer a free community education event on the dangers children face online, with two session dates scheduled for mid-October.

The workshop, titled "Playing It Safe: Exposing Dangers in Our Digital World," will bring together school district leaders, law enforcement, and Dr. Andrew Doan, an expert in media addiction, to discuss the risks young people encounter through smartphones, gaming, social media, and other internet activity. According to the district, over 500,000 online predators are active at any given time, making digital safety education critical for parents, guardians, educators, and community members.

The event is designed for ages 13 and up and will cover what children encounter online, current protections in place within ECPS, and practical steps families can take if they spot suspicious activity. "The No. 1 priority of Escambia County Public Schools is to protect our students," the district said in announcing the partnership.

Two identical sessions are scheduled for October 13 and October 15. Seating is limited, and registration is encouraged through Eventbrite. The event is free and open to all community members. More information and registration links are available through the school district.
