Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Pensacola Saenger General Manager Jeffrey Sharp says they are paying attention to the public sentiment regarding their scheduled "Drag Queen Christmas" show -- and they plan to make sure it complies with local laws.
"Based on some of the concerns raised about the show in question, we've gone the extra mile and provided the event production company with copies of the relevant city ordinances and state laws," said Sharp when addressing the council on Thursday. "Consequently, if this show's s content violates city ordinances or state laws.... performers could face arrest, the production company could be held legally liable, and authorities could shut down the production immediately."
Sharp said the safety and comfort of guests, staff, and performers is their top priority. He says they respect the differing views on the program that they have received in recent weeks.
Members of the local church community have been urging the Pensacola city council to cancel the contract for the show for several weeks -- but the council hasn't taken any action, as the city's legal advisor said they could be liable for damages tod the production company.
