Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Governor Ron DeSantis has signed legislation requiring Florida colleges and universities to strengthen safety and security on their campuses. The bill was prompted by last year's deadly shooting at Florida State University. It requires schools to adopt active assailant response plans, conduct annual security assessments, and establish threat management teams. The law also allows colleges and universities to participate in the Guardian Program — letting trained, volunteer employees carry firearms on campus. The bill was sponsored locally by Pensacola Representative Michelle Salzman and Senator Don Gaetz of Crestview.
