County Cracking Down on Utility Contractors After Damage

Santa Rosa County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Santa Rosa County is updating its right-of-way permit ordinance after fiber optic contractors damaged water lines, gas lines, sewer lines and cables across the county. Commissioner Kerry Smith said Garcon Point Water has had an "inordinately high" number of boil water notices from contractors cutting pipes. The new rules will require contractors to show where other infrastructure is located, verify they've contacted other utilities through 8-1-1, and only allow boring work during daytime hours for safety.
