Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Escambia County is moving foward with plans to revamp the Pensacola Beach gateway, with costs jumping from an initial $707-thousand to $1.6 million for a new architectural design featuring a sailfish fin. The total project is estimated to cost between $6.3 million and $7.5 million, including roadway improvements and landscaping. Despite calls for public input, the requirement for community meetings was dropped to expedite the project. The county commissioners will review funding recommendations and contract amendments at their meeting on May 1. Community input can be submitted by contacting Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger by email.
