Convicted Florida Killer Executed

(Raiford, FL) -- A convicted killer is dead after he was executed at Florida State Prison. Anthony Wainwright was executed Tuesday evening at Florida State Prison, over 30 years after he and an accomplice kidnapped and murdered Carmen Gayheart outside a Lake City supermarket. Wainwright was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m., becoming the sixth inmate executed in Florida this year.

Family members of Gayheart, who was a nursing student and mother of two, expressed frustration that it took so long for justice to be served. Governor Ron DeSantis has now signed a death warrant for another inmate, Thomas Gudinas, who is scheduled for execution on June 24.
