Century outreach teams seek homeless residents ahead of hurricane

Two Escambia County organizations are launching an emergency outreach effort today to locate people experiencing homelessness in Century and transport them to shelter before hurricane conditions arrive.

Opening Doors and Str8 Up Leadership Academy are coordinating the initiative, with Executive Director Bruce Cody and Pastor Evelyn Deterville leading teams across the Century community starting at noon Thursday. The effort aims to ensure vulnerable residents have safe shelter as weather deteriorates.

The outreach represents a coordinated response between local nonprofits and community leadership to address immediate safety concerns during severe weather. Both organizations have been active in providing services to Escambia County's homeless population.
