Pensacola FL (NewsRadio 92-3) Last year, Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed more than 600 state arts and culture grants. As a result, the Jazz Society announced it's canceling Pensacola's 43rd annual JazzFest, which usually happens in April. An artistic director says the JazzFest isn’t the only event to feel this impact now. Northwest Florida is home to many arts-related events and festivals, like The Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival, Foo Foo Fest, Jazzfest, Pensacola Little Theatre and Pensacola Children’s Chorus, among others. Pensacola Children’s Chorus Artistic and Executive Director Alex Gartner says now the arts community is scrambling for funding. Gartner says the situation is sad because state funding was available for decades. The worry is for the community as the organizations shrink and adapt to funding situations.
