Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Chicken finger fans, your wait is almost over. Pensacola has approved plans to demolish the former Red Lobster near Cordova Mall to make way for a Raising Cane's restaurant. The popular chain has been rumored for Pensacola since 2022. Permits for demolition and construction have been issued, including plans for a drive-thru and outdoor seating. Right now, the closest location is in Mobile, so this will give locals much closer access to those famous chicken fingers and that addictive Cane's sauce. The chain plans to operate more than 1,600 locations nationwide by decade's end.

Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Northwest Florida honored veterans yesterday with parades and ceremonies across the region. At the Pensacola Veterans Day ceremony, retired Navy Captain Lee Hansen—the first woman to command a Navy air wing—served as keynote speaker. The ceremony also honored Vietnam War "Dustoff Pilots"—named for the dirt and debris their helicopters kicked up during rescues. These medevac crews extracted an estimated 900-thousand wounded soldiers between 1962 and 1973, flying into hot zones where they had just a one-in-three chance of survival. Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves presented a proclamation recognizing their bravery and the Congressional Gold Medal they received in 2024. Meanwhile, parades and celebrations were held throughout Santa Rosa County, Pensacola Beach, and across the Panhandle.

Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Good news for steak lovers—Pensacola's Outback Steakhouse isn't going anywhere. While the chain's parent company, Bloomin' Brands, has closed nearly two dozen locations nationwide in recent months, the Airport Boulevard restaurant appears safe. A kitchen manager there tells the PNJ that they've heard nothing about any closure plans. The company is actually doubling down on Outback, planning a 75-million-dollar turnaround focused on what the CEO calls "steak excellence." All remaining locations will get renovations by 2028, with brighter interiors, new menus, and better service. The company says it's getting back to its roots as a serious steakhouse.
