TWO ARRESTED IN LOCAL ATM SKIMMER SCAM
The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office says two men are in custody in connection to a skimmer scam at area bank ATM’s. Romanian nationals 47-year-old Zmfir Nitu and 41-year-old Irinel-Vasile Irimia are accused of using at least 44 counterfeit cards to withdraw over $11,000 from ATMs using skimmer devices. They’re now charged with felony counts of third-degree larceny and fraud. Investigators say about 700 cards were skimmed at various locations in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties. The duo was arrested after deputies were able to track down their vehicle and make a traffic stop. The sheriff’s office says the investigation is very much active, involving multiple agencies and jurisdictions. Additional charges could be coming.
