At yesterday’s Santa Rosa County Commission meeting, one item on the consent agenda (things so uncontroversial that they don’t even get discussed or voted on individually) was to approve a noise variance for concrete construction work at the new Elkhart K-8 school in Navarre. The Santa Rosa noise ordinance prohibits a variety of construction noise during night hours (the type of noise and hours vary). After the vote, noise is now allowed at the school site on Elkhart Drive starting at 2 AM and at the concrete plant on Ola Broxson Road and 87 at 1 AM until May 1. The request says they expect to do work during these hours “approximately 1-2 days per week.”
A caller to the Pensacola Morning News says the work and noise have already begun this morning and was noticeable. He also says he has made request for the construction trucks to drive more slowly through the neighborhood and that he plans to sell the house because of the eventual traffic issues in the neighborhood.
