Salzman: HB 1543 Not Likely to Become Law This Session

SALZMAN: HB 1543 NOT LIKELY TO PASS THIS SESSION — David Wayne

Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) — As work continues in Tallhassee this year, one bill that hasn’t been talked about much is HB 1543 which is co-sponsored by Northwest Florida’s Michele Salzman.

It would lower the age to buy a rifle back down to 18, removing one of the provisions put into place in the post-Parkland bill back in 2019. Salzman tells Newsradio it’s not likely to become law this year though…
“If I were just being completely honest, we’ve had some blocks,” Salzman says. However, she says the bill is a passion of House Speaker Paul Renner, and says even if it doesn’t pass this year second amendment rights will be a priority moving forward.

Other second amendment items that could be considered in upcoming legislative sessions include campus carry, and open carry of guns.
