Update: Alabama Execution Halted by Supreme Court Ruling

Alabama's planned execution of death row inmate Jeffery Lee has been halted after the U-S Supreme Court denied the state the ability to carry out the sentence by nitrogen hypoxia. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall called the ruling a miscarriage of justice, saying the decision denies closure to the families of Lee's victims — Jimmy Ellis and Elaine Thompson — who were present and prepared to witness the execution. Marshall says the state will pursue every available option to carry out Lee's sentence.
