Okaloosa County, FL -- The sinking of the SS United States to create the world's largest artificial reef off Okaloosa County has been pushed back from May to June. The ship is currently in Mobile undergoing final preparations while federal approvals from the Army Corps of Engineers and EPA are completed. Once those are in hand the deployment will take place within 30 to 60 days. The SS United States will be located 22 miles outside Okaloosa Pass and will take the title of world's largest artificial reef from the USS Oriskany, which sits about 12 miles away southeast of Pensacola Pass.
