DOCK BEING BUILT ON BAGDAD MILL PARK SITE -- David Wayne
Some improvements are coming to the Bagdad Mill Site Park -- Santa Rosa County is reportedly planning on adding a 300-foot dock along the Blackwater River. That will give boaters a spot to stop and tie off, so they can spend some time learning about the history of the location...a once significant center of commerce. According to the PNJ, crews are already working to clear the site and expect to have wrapped up construction by late May. The dock will cost just over a million dollars and is being funded with county sales tax dollars and a $400,000 grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Unfortunately, the county has decided not to build the planned pavilion due to rising construction costs. The Bagdad Mill Park features 21 acres with historic markers, walking trails, and scenic views of Pond Creek and the Blackwater River.
