PPD And DCF Investigation Ongoing After 3-Year-Old's Gun Accident

PPD: INVESTIGATION CONTINUES AFTER CHILD SHOOTS THEMSELF -- David Wayne

Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Earlier this week we learned of a near tragedy where a 3-year-old child got ahold of a loaded gun and ended up shooting themselves -- luckily the child's injuries were not life-threatening.

"That could have been much worse," PPD Spokesman Mike Wood tells Newsradio 92.3. "We've seen things happen here in our area before where the child was not so fortunate."

Wood tells Newsradio that PPD and Department of Children and Families investigators are still working to determine whether the parents will face charges in the incident.

Wood says it's important for parents to remember that Florida law requires gun owners to safely store their weapons in a way that they aren't a danger to kids -- if you need a gun lock you can get one for free from either PPD or the Escambia Sheriff's Office.
