Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Pensacola has a bona fide American Idol contender, and the city is ready to show her some love.

Keyla Richardson, a Pensacola native and local teacher, earned her spot in the top 3 during Monday night's episode of American Idol on ABC, delivering two standout performances that left the judges raving and America voting in force. Host Ryan Seacrest sealed her new nickname for the nation when he announced her advancement, calling her "PensaKeyla."

Richardson performed Ike & Tina Turner's "River Deep - Mountain High" and Stevie Wonder's "Living for the City" during the episode, both performances drawing strong praise from the judging panel including Paula Abdul.

KeylaFest 2026 Is On

Plans for a massive hometown celebration called KeylaFest 2026 were already in place, contingent on Richardson making the top 3. With that milestone now reached, the celebration is officially happening Wednesday in downtown Pensacola.

The festivities begin at 4 p.m. with a celebratory parade along South Palafox Street from West Cedar Street toward Plaza De Luna. Then at 6:30 p.m., Richardson will perform a live concert at the Hunter Amphitheater behind Blue Wahoos Stadium, with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. For those who can't make it outside, the concert will also be broadcast live inside Blue Wahoos Stadium.

Wednesday's events are free and open to the public. Pensacola Police and the Escambia County Sheriff's Office will assist with crowd management for what is expected to be one of the largest downtown gatherings in recent memory.

American Idol will be filming Richardson's homecoming celebration for an upcoming episode, giving Pensacola a rare opportunity to showcase itself to the show's national audience. The filming brings with it significant economic exposure for the region, with local hotels, restaurants, and businesses expected to benefit from the influx of visitors and the national television coverage.

Richardson will now compete for a spot in the finale as one of three remaining contestants. The next episode of American Idol airs Monday at 7 p.m. on ABC.
