Pensacola Man Charged with Bank Robbery in Crestview

Crestview, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- A 66-year-old Pensacola man is charged with robbing a bank in Crestview. Police say they were called to a Regions Bank location on Friday afternoon. The suspect was wearing a fluorescent yellow safety vest and a large straw hat with a face mask, and held his hand in his pocket claiming to have a gun. Police say the suspect had already fled when they arrived at the bank. Witnesses described seeing the person get into a white SUV and flee from a neighboring parking lot. Officers identified James Johnson as the suspect -- and say he has a history of bank robberies after being convicted and serving time for two robberies back in the 90s. Following the robbery in Crestview Johnson was taken into custody by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.
