Patronis Covers Sewing Box Contract, Iran Peace Deal, Chinese Influence and More

Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- Northwest Florida Congressman Jimmy Patronis joined Pensacola's Morning News on Monday with a wide-ranging interview — opening with a local story that generated 30 constituent texts over the weekend and moving through Iran, Chinese infrastructure strategy, and a find in his own congressional office.

Sewing Box Blue Angels Contract

Candy White-Hirsch — owner of The Sewing Box in Pensacola — made Blue Angels flight suits for decades before finding herself out of a contract she says she was never notified was going out for rebid. The new contract went to a Pennsylvania firm for approximately $1.7 million over five years. Patronis says he reached out to a Pentagon contact over the weekend and is waiting to hear back. He says he wants to see actual procurement documents before drawing any conclusions — texts and emails from constituents are helpful context but not the basis for action.

Patronis noted that the $1.7 million contract likely covers more than just Blue Angels suits — potentially including flight suits for other squadrons and aircraft at NAS Pensacola — which would explain why the dollar amount is so much larger than what White-Hirsch previously received. He says White-Hirsch has options. If the procurement was mishandled a bid protest is available legally. If it was handled correctly and she missed the window the fastest path to staying involved may be subcontracting to the Pennsylvania firm that won. Patronis says he will keep pushing until he has real answers.

Iran Peace Deal

Patronis says he believes a peace deal with Iran is genuinely on the verge — driven not just by American military pressure but by Saudi Arabia and other regional stakeholders who are actively calling Tehran and urging restraint. He says those stakeholders have direct access to the president and can communicate his temperature and frustration in ways that are more persuasive than anything that appears on television. He says Iranian factions that want to survive are starting to recognize they need to stop fighting and start governing.

On the economic front Patronis says cutting off Iran's ability to finance proxy groups like Hamas and Hezbollah is a longer road than direct military action but ultimately the more effective strategy. He says if Iran cannot fund its own economy it cannot fund the groups it has put into Palestine. He says every agreement that interrupts that financial flow is a victory toward bringing the broader conflict to a close.

Chinese Influence on Data Centers

Patronis pushed back hard on the narrative surrounding data center opposition — saying foreign actors including China have a direct interest in slowing American infrastructure development and that the opposition campaigns serve Chinese strategic interests whether participants realize it or not. He drew a parallel to San Francisco's economic development arm flooding the internet with sea level rise warnings about Miami — not to inform the public but to steer site selectors away from a competitor. He says China is doing the same thing on a global scale with data centers and that its most desperate wish is that America would not keep up and compete in AI and cyber infrastructure.

Chinese Technology in His Own Office

A routine Capitol Police security sweep of Patronis's congressional office turned up Chinese technology embedded in a phone charger he bought on Amazon — an induction pad he had no reason to suspect. He says the discovery crystallized exactly why TikTok and Chinese-manufactured consumer electronics are serious national security concerns. He says China does not need human intelligence operatives in the United States — it has Americans voluntarily buying and installing its listening devices in their homes and offices. He says he has beaten people up about TikTok for years and this experience reinforced why — never allow TikTok on any local WiFi network under any circumstances.

The broader Roomba import ban — restricting robots manufactured overseas from entering the American market — is a direct response to the same concern. Patronis says the ban and the TikTok warnings are part of a coherent response to a coherent long-term Chinese strategy that includes infrastructure investment in developing nations designed not to create local jobs but to leave Chinese personnel and influence embedded in countries that desperately needed the infrastructure.
