Parking Garage Near Port Moving Up the Priority List

Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- A parking garage on city-owned surface lots west of the port is now more urgent than ever — and city officials say the Birdon shipbuilding project is a big reason why. The lots along Comendencia Street and Cedar near the ferry landing are all city or port-owned, and a garage has long been considered the right fit for that location. With up to 2,000 jobs potentially coming to the port, officials are now looking at a catwalk over the train tracks connecting a future garage to the north terminus of the port. No timeline has been set, but the city says the project needs to get across the finish line first before those conversations can go further.
