NEW TECHNOLOGY AIDS SHERIFF'S OFFICE

A new piece of technology is being used by law enforcement agencies in Northwest Florida. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office has a narcotics analyzer, a device that can scan a drug and tell deputies exactly what it is. It's called the TruNarc narcotics analyzer. It uses a small laser to scan drugs. And through the magic of science, it identifies a drug and anything laced inside. The growing opioid epidemic is forcing police agencies across the country to think of new ways to keep drugs off the street. Sheriff Bob Johnson says the machines are accurate enough to arrest and charge someone as soon as the tests are complete. Sheriff Johnson says he plans to apply for additional grants to get more of these scanners.
