New Santa Rosa County Alcohol Sales Ordinance for Highway 98 Goes Into Effect

ORDINANCE CHANGING ALCOHOL SALES IN SANTA ROSA COUNTY GOES INTO EFFECT -- David Wayne

Santa Rosa County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- An ordinance change in Santa Rosa County lifting some alcohol sales restrictions along the Highway 98 corridor went into effect with the new year.

The change will allow alcohol sales less than 2500 feet from a church or school. County Commissioner Colten Wright tells Channel 3 that in most of the county, the law didn't cause issues, but along Highway 98 it can be difficult to find a location that isn't within a few thousand feet of either a church or school.

The local American Legion Post 378 is one organization that had trouble finding a location...

"Now we're going to be able to find a new location that's going to allow us to grow, include more programming, and bring more good work to the city of Gulf Breeze and the entire county of Santa Rosa."

Darra Flanagan with the American Legion says the organization had found a building, but then found out it fell within 50 feet of the limit.

The ordinance change will only apply along Highway 98 in South Santa Rosa County -- and Commissioner Wright says the only change is allowing alcohol sales. He says it does not allow adult entertainment or any other regulation changes.
