FDOT Awarded $356 Million For Statewide Rail Crossing Safety Upgrades

Florida's Department of Transportation has landed a three-hundred-fifty-six-million-dollar federal grant to overhaul rail crossing safety statewide. Combined with a hundred-million-dollar state investment, the four-hundred-fifty-six-million-dollar effort will upgrade more than nine-hundred rail crossings with new gates, lighting, signage, and pedestrian warning systems. FDOT Secretary Jared Perdue calls it a transformational opportunity for rail safety. Crossings with the highest history of incidents will be prioritized first as the work rolls out.
