Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Escambia County is putting the finishing touches on the 1.3-mile nature trail at the Southwest Sports Complex. The county recently planted 10 endangered, White-Topped Pitcher Plants there to celebrate Earth Day. The trail is part of the Florida Greenways and Trails System and will soon feature new amenities like benches and educational signage. Conservation initiatives also include invasive species management and plan for a prescribed burn to promote healthy plant growth and reduce wildfire risks. The complex is located on Bauer Road, and the trail is open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset.
