Work continues at ECUA to inspect water lines for lead pipes -- both main lines and private lines leading into residents homes. We're about two weeks out from a mid-October deadline for utilities to provide an initial assessment of where lead pipes are still being used. ECUA's Executive Director Bruce Woody says our area is in good shape, because there have been strict guidelines restricting the use of lead pipes since at least the 1940s. He says only some of the areas oldest homes still have any lead pipes in use. He says work will continue to identify any lead pipes as they are working on service lines and they'll be scheduling further inspections at some of the older homes as well. Woody says Escambia County's water has tested at less than a tenth of the allowable level for lead for decades
