The heavy equipment has moved in and the demolition is on at the Malcolm Yonge gym. That's despite several citizens filing for another temporary restraining order to halt the teardown. City leaders have been discussing affordable housing options for the site. At this week's Community Redevelopment Agency meeting, Mayor DC Reeves recommended that homes be built on a 99-year community land trust. Reeves says the 99-year land trust would ensure that the homes remain affordable, and couldn't simply be flipped at market rate by whoever gets into the home first.
