CITY SAYS "THANKS, BUT NO THANKS" TO YONGE GYM PURCHASE OFFER

The city of Pensacola is saying "Thanks, but no thanks" to a last-ditch effort to save the Malcolm Yonge gym from being torn down. Unsuccessful in their arguments that the gym could be repaired, the James B Washington Education and Sports group submitted a purchase offer of nearly $529,000 last week. Tomorrow, the City Council will vote on awarding a contract to demolish the gym. Mayor Reeves has said that the cost to assess and repair the gym could be as much as $3 million. The city intends to use the property as affordable housing opportunities.
