PERDIDO MAILERS GOING OUT ABOUT PUBLIC ACCESS TO BEACHES

PERDIDO MAILERS GOING OUT ABOUT PUBLIC ACCESS TO BEACHES — Steve Taylor

Mailers are going out to Perdido Key Gulf-front property owners telling them that the public is allowed to use a portion of their privately owned beaches. The debate over public easements along 64 beachfront properties appears to be settled. Both Escambia County and many beachfront condos have had attorneys reviewing documents for weeks now. In the mailer, the county says the public is allowed to use 75 feet of the beach, but is required to enter the beach through a public access point. Last week, the county began enforcing a new ordinance requiring the no-trespassing signs to be removed from the beach. Property owners are now allowed one sign at the dune line on each side of the property.
