PENSACOLA MAN CONVICTED IN HOME INVASION, KIDNAPPING, RAPE, AND GRAND THEFT — Steve Taylor

Pensacola, FL (WEAR) — A jury found a 42-year-old Pensacola man guilty of a home invasion robbery that ended with him kidnapping the victim, raping her, and stealing her car and debit card. Billy Ray Smith, Jr. was found guilty last Thursday of multiple charges for the incident which happened on August 18 of last year. According to the State Attorney’s Office, Smith entered the victim’s Chemstrand Road home while she was asleep on the couch. He then put a gun to her head, threatened her, demanded money, and ransacked her home. Following this, authorities say Smith put the victim in the trunk of her car and drove to a vacant lot, where he raped her at knifepoint. He then used her debit card and withdrew money from an ATM. Authorities say Smith stole the woman’s car as well and ultimately left her duct taped to a chair in her bathroom. Smith was arrested on August 19. His sentencing is scheduled for March 9. He faces a maximum sentence of Life in prison.
