MAN SHOT AND KILLED WHILE HOLDING HOSTAGE AT KNIFEPOINT: UPDATED — Steve Taylor

Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92-3) — The man shot and killed by Escambia County deputies yesterday on Helton Lane has been identified. Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons says it all started when 53-year-old Ronnie Clark threatened bail bondsmen who tried to take him into custody on drug charges. Chip Simmons says Clark was a dangerous felon, who took a woman hostage and held a knife to her throat as he tried to escape after a five-hour standoff with deputies. Simmons says the woman that Clark was holding as a hostage may have also been hit by the bullet that killed the suspect. She was taken to the hospital, but there was no update on her current condition. The deputy that shot Clark has been placed on paid leave as FDLE investigates the shooting.
