FATAL ACCIDENT ON US 98 IN GULF BREEZE — Steve Taylor

Gulf Breeze, FL (NewsRadio 92-3) — A 60-year-old Gulf Breeze woman was killed in a fatal crash involving a dump truck and an SUV earlier today on Highway 98 in Santa Rosa County. It happened around 10:35 am at Ambassador Drive in the Midway area, just east of the Gulf Breeze Zoo. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the 60-year-old woman was traveling east on 98 in her SUV in the left turn lane to Ambassador Drive. Meanwhile, the dump truck was traveling west on 98 approaching the Ambassador Drive intersection. The SUV started to make a left turn onto Ambassador Drive but failed to yield to the approaching dump truck, causing the dump truck to collide with the SUV. The driver of the dump truck, a 64-year-old Jay man, was not injured. As of now, westbound US 98 is still closed and may be closed for an extended period of time or see extensive delays due to the accident investigation. An alternate route is to take Edgewood Drive north to East Bay Boulevard, and back down to US 98 past the accident site.
